Standard Car Truck Europe Ltd., a subsidiary of The Standard Car Truck Company, of Park Ridge, Illinois USA, has introduced its new range of High Performance Track Friendly railway freight bogies.
The new bogie, named the Barber Easy Ride bogie (BER bogie), has been developed over two years and completed an extended test program at the end of June 2006.
The test results have established the BER bogie to be in a ‘class of its own’. Instrumented wheelsets, accelerometers and transducers were used to monitor all running conditions of the test wagon which was a 101.6t GLW wagon for service in the UK with Freightliner.
Documented evidence of MEASURED vertical forces, lateral forces, bogie rotation and axle steering, track shifting forces, stability at high speed and low speed, loaded and unloaded is available.
An independently verified dynamic model for predicting wagon ride performance is offered; to assist wagon builders and wagon operators produce and operate highly efficient cost effective railway wagons.
The BER bogie has been designed to minimise maintenance costs, particularly wheel wear. Documented wheelset steering in a wide range of curves in fully loaded conditions provides a high degree of confidence that BER wheel wear will be significantly lower than bogies without steering capability.
